These are exciting times for our family, team and army here at Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle. We are a family with one heart, a team with one goal, and an army with one mission. It is our desire to please God, advance His kingdom, help others and grow personally. As you will see when you read through this list, there are over eighty ministries happening here at SGT. Your involvement in these ministries will help you grow personally while helping others to do the same. It is our hope that you will use this resource as a way to discover how you and your family can use the personality, gifts and passions the Lord has given you, not only to receive ministry, but to bless others!
If you would like more information about a ministry, or if you would like to get involved, simply call the church office to find out how to be connected with the leader of that ministry-- it’s that simple!
May the Lord richly bless you as you partner with Him to advance His kingdom, to grow strong in Him and to be of service to others.
Sincerely in Christ,
Gary A. Zarlengo
Senior Pastor

The Life Development Ministry offers spiritual growth for believers through classes and small groups on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. Classes are designed to provide study and application of Biblical principles thru Bible study and growth-oriented topics that deal with finances, children, Christ in the workplace, knowing what you believe, apologetics, and much more. Classes meet for approximately 13 weeks with fall, winter and spring semesters.
Adult Life Development teachers here at SGT must fulfill a number of requirements in order to
teach. Some of these are membership in SGT, successful completion of several in-home study
courses, agreement with our 14 Statements of Faith and co-teaching for at least one semester
for all new teachers.

Catch the Vision, while required for membership, is for anyone who desires to know more about SGT and how to become an active part of the SGT family, team, and army.

Transformation is the second stage of the Journey and begins with a short term small group designed to define and emphasize the need for discipleship, to help the participant find a tangible path to discipleship at SGT, and, finally, to offer some means of support and accountability in their efforts. Catch the Vision is a prerequisite for Transformation.
Discovery
The purpose of Discovery is to help participants discover their God given spiritual gifts, talents, passions, and unique personal traits in an effort to equip them for ministry. It begins with a short term small group in which various instruction on spiritual gifts, values, team working concepts, etc. will be offered. Individuals will benefit from taking various spiritual gift surveys, values assessments, personality profiles, etc., all in an effort to assist in their ministry placement. Attendance at Catch the Vision and satisfactory participation in Transformation is required in order to participate in Discovery.

The Men’s Ministry strives to equip men in their spiritual growth. Through the power of the Holy Spirit many past hurts and strongholds are healed and broken. As men forgive, surrender and cleanse their hearts and minds, they become more effective leaders in their homes, churches and communities. We partner and unite with other churches on Long Island through the God-4-Me and Promise Keepers ministries. The leadership team organizes men’s small groups, retreats and breakfasts. There are many corporate and strategic prayer expressions at SGT. The vision of Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle prayer ministries is to advance God’s kingdom by fully engaging in the purpose, power, and practical expression of prayer.
- Corporate Prayer Meetings
The corporate prayer meetings are exciting times during which believers at SGT come together to seek the Lord and declare His will to be accomplished on earth as it is in heaven. During these meetings there is an openness to the direction and leading of the Holy Spirit. Incorporated in the meetings are times of worship, thanksgiving, petitions, personal ministry and intercession.
- Strategic Prayer/Intercessory Meetings
These are prayer meetings that have a specific focus and are implemented during services and special events. Involvement in these meetings is encouraged only after certain prerequisites are fulfilled.
In this ministry individuals pray while walking in specific geographical areas, asking God to fulfill His purposes for the lives of the people that live in that region and for the community as a whole.
- Evangelism Explosion Prayer
The purpose of this prayer meeting is to pray for the evangelism teams as they are going out to witness, for the unsaved to come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and for new believers to be encouraged in their faith.
This ministry is a prayer partnership with our missionaries as they serve the Lord on their specific mission field. Prayer is offered daily on behalf of specific missionary partners, their families, and the people groups to whom they minister. There are also corporate prayer meetings scheduled.
This prayer ministry enables individuals to pray for our missionaries by making the latest communication from them available, either by e-mail or hard copy. These updates are available each Sunday at both missions counters.
- Short-Term Missions Prayer
In this ministry, ongoing prayer is made for the selection of short term trips and teams. Prayer is made for the teams as they prepare, while they are away, and after their return, and for ongoing fruitfulness from their outreach. There is prayer for future missionaries as well as for our present missionaries. Since home, neighborhood, and workplace are considered mission fields there is active involvement in prayer walks in the community.
- Prayer for Unreached People Groups
This ministry of prayer consists of praying daily and specifically for one or both of the “unreached people groups” (those who have never heard the gospel) which our church has adopted. Prayer calendars provide awareness of specific needs as well as background information. Prayer meetings focused upon the unreached people groups are scheduled throughout the year.
- 265-Need (265-6333) Prayer Request Phone Line
This is a phone line where individuals can call and leave their prayer request. These requests are picked up daily and shared with a group of intercessors who will pray for the specific request.
- 265- Need (265-6333) Intercessors
This prayer ministry is very flexible for those who would like to pray, but are unable to attend a corporate meeting. Prayer intercessors are able to call daily into this phone line to receive and pray for the prayer requests that have been left on the 265-Need phone line.
- Moms-In-Touch International Prayer Meetings
This ministry is a wonderful way for mothers to participate within the community in a weekly one hour prayer meeting specifically to pray for their children, teachers, schools, and administrations. There are prayer groups designated for the different schools in various districts. The prayer time consists of a time of praise, private confession, thanksgiving, and intercession.
- Smithtown Christian School PTF Prayer Meeting
This prayer meeting is a time in which parents, faculty, administration, and School Board members come together to pray. Intercession is made for God’s will to be done in the lives of the students, their families, faculty, administration, and School Board. Also specific needs of the school and upcoming events are covered in prayer.
- Smithtown Christian School Moms-In Touch Prayer Meeting
In this prayer meeting mothers whose children attend SCS meet weekly to pray for their children, the teachers, the school, and the administration. The prayer time consists of praise, private confession, thanksgiving, and intercession. This meeting includes elementary, middle school, and high school levels. Grandmothers are welcomed.
